A short distance from the city, a day trip to Bowen Island proved to be such a perfect, late-Summer escape. A place to discover, to enjoy, to savour, to unwind. Slow down ten paces and you’re there. Calm, but exciting to discover. Quiet, but full of life. As if, for the day, we had been centrally placed into a community of people who have been, and who have only just begun…

Perhaps one of the loveliest sites to see, though, on that pier was in fact that children. Running up and down the pier they were, some with sun-kissed noses and dripping ice cream cones, and others leading the way to imaginative games for three. It was Summer freedom, it was Summer bliss; the very kind that claims dimpled smiles many years later, and daydreams full of fond memories…

Our next visit was a place we hadn’t heard of, a delightful surprise in fact, Copper Spirit Distillery. Freshly opened, and beautifully appointed with so much care, we sauntered into a calm and cool space of concrete, velvet, marble, and soft light. It would become a much-recommended highlight of the trip, with beautiful flavours of hibiscus and lovely conversation assuredly to bring us back.

It is a place that could have been situated in an entirely different setting, but happily added a wonderful layer to Bowen Island’s beauty, and indeed, a fun experience also having a change to visit the distillery aspect of the business.

Having an appreciation for the handmade and beautiful, we ventured over to Artisan Square—entirely quaint and charming in every way. And whether the new hotel, a coffee shop, or custom cashmere to treasure would be in store, it is delightful. Though certainly, discovering the Itsumo pop-up shop alongside the very talented Miki Tanaka was the highlight for us both.

Always a favorite for curation and craftsmanship, we were fortunate to have planned the trip on this day, in fact, the last day of the Itsumo pop-up, and we left with a few treasures in hand, and many more on the wish list…

Highly recommended to us for dinner was Tuscany. Tucked along the main road of the area, into a heritage home, and spilling out into the sunshine, we were fortunate to have been able to secure a table at this much-loved spot. A favorite amoungst locals and visitors alike, the restaurant offers a very beautiful menu of Italian food in a truly Trattoria style, and we were delighted to try some of the handmade pizzas (baked in a true pizza over)—our favorite perhaps being the smoked wild salmon.

And with such soft Summer sunshine, special company, and so many lovely experiences that day, another trip this Autumn is surely in store…
